This should be one sided, but you never know. Technically the 959 was an engineering masterpiece. The F40 was (and is) a street legal racecar. The question is... which do you find prettier? Just going by looks and leaving all the stats out of it, I still choose F40

the 959 just seems to have odd proportions to me. Compared to the porsches at the time it is my least favorite.

The F40 is awesome.

F40 is prettier, but I’ll have the 959 all day.

It’s funny how we all feel the same. F40 prettier, but we all want to drive the 959

Funny now that you mention it as the types buying either are much the same personality.

959 for me... for driving as well as looks. From the front, I prefer the 959. From the back, the F40 is a little better. And for a car to drive, 959 all the way.

I don’t think the F40 is THAT pretty. In terms of pure looks, the 288GTO, 328 and 308 all look nicer to my eyes.

I’ve never thought the F40 was very pretty. That’s why I put it against the 959. boxy racecar vs whale tail Porsche(technically also a racecar).

The 959 is the technological tour de force of its time, and they stop me in my tracks when one appears at Laguna, but I’ve never read that the driving experience was anything more special than the 993 turbo. Special car, it pushed the supercar boundary while adding refinement and reliability, and set the mold for all Porsche Turbos to come, but it has the stereotypical “lacks passion” affliction. Super effective though.

On the other hand, in my lifetime I’ve never read of another street Ferrari (or supercar, for that matter) spoken of in the way the F40 is, with reverence, awe, and perhaps most importantly a suggestion of fear. And come on, which one belongs on a young boy’s wall? I still have my pull-out poster from a Road & Track Ferrari Special circa 1987 or so, and while I love and have enjoyed working on and driving Porsches, on the very rare occasion I see an F40 it’s a religious experience. I don’t think “pretty” describes it, because it’s aggressive as hell, all angles and openings, but it’s nonetheless one of the most perfectly designed cars in history.

They’re both rare enough that it’s hard to choose. If they were parked next to each other, I don’t know which would get more of my time.

If they were side by side I wouldn’t even notice the 959.

Definitely 959 for me, that’s actually my favorite car ever. I’ve always liked porsches but no car has topped the 959 for me in terms of the want factor. Maybe it’s the looks, maybe it’s the rarity.

I also don’t think the F40 looks that great. It was an amazing car and if I had one I certainly wouldn’t complain. But to me the styling looks like they took a wedge and put a spoiler on the back. The 959 is what you probably wish the 911 actually looked like.

It’d have to be the 959 for me. It just does something for me. the F40 I guess is just too boxy and uninteresting looking to me.
